The company was established in 1958, as a Partnership firm bearing the name MAGNETO ELECTRICALS. The Partnership Firm was owned 50 % by the members of the Advani family and the remaining 50 % was held by other partners. MAGNETO ELECTRICALS pioneered the manufacture of Industrial Magnetic Equipment, Vibrating Equipment, Crane Control Gear and other products in India. In 1973, the Partnership of MAGNETO ELECTRICALS was dissolved and the assets were divided among the partners. The Advani family retained the factory at Kandivli, manufacturing Industrial Magnetic Equipment, and the other partners took over the Crane Control Gear manufacturing unit located at Dadar. The Advani family renamed their Kandivli unit as ELEKTROMAG DEVICES. Today ELEKTROMAG DEVICES PVT. LTD. (MAGNETICS DIVISION), formerly known as ELEKTROMAG DEVICES, is the leading and most diversified manufacturer of a variety of Magnets & Magnetic Separators in India. From 1958 to 1977 all the products manufactured by ELEKTROMAG DEVICES PVT. LTD. (MAGNETICS DIVISION), hereinafter referred to as “EDPL (Magnetics Division)”, were developed in-house. However, foreseeing the need for more advanced technology and growth potential in the market, it was decided to seek foreign technical collaboration. EDPL (Magnetics Division) entered into a technical collaboration with M/s. STEINERT ELEKTROMAGNETBAU GmbH, West Germany in 1978, to upgrade its variety of Magnets & Magnetic Separators, Steinert Elektromagnetbau GmbH was selected as collaborator because they were one of the oldest firm in Europe in the manufacture of Magnetic Equipment having commenced manufacture of production in 1889. The technical collaboration continued till 1991, and thereafter EDPL (Magnetics Division) has maintained cordial relations with Steinert Elektromagnetbau Gmbh. In 1992, EDPL (Magnetics Division), signed a technical collaboration agreement with M/s. Sturton-Gill Engineering Pvt. Ltd., Australia to manufacture a range of oil cooled suspension and overband magnets,
