Thus blades have a very important role to play in any industry be it Steel, Paper, Plastic, Leather, Food, Packaging etc. etc. Proper selection & use of blades ensures trouble free & satisfactory performance of the process with least breakdown & shut down time which finally yield to better economy. Blades are manufactured from special grade Tool Steel with specification (Chemical Composition) compatible with working conditions of Shearing – Hot or Cold and also thickness and Hardness of the material to be sheared. Heat treatment is carried out in Electric Furnace strictly maintaining Time-Temperature as per the specification of the Tool Steel to achieve desired micro structure change for obtaining optimum Hardness along with Toughness so that the Blade can sustain sharpness of the Cutting Edge after repeated use also. As a rule minimum regrinding should be done so that metal loss is minimum & thereby same Blade can be used for longer time. In addition to the use of proper & good quality of blades, life is greatly achieved by correct Fixing & Setting of the Blades considering thickness of the material to be sheared. For fine edge cutting without any bur by correct setting of Top & Bottom Blades is very important. Fixing Bolts should not be unduly tightened. This may lead to undesirable stress on the Blade, causing to Crack during use especially in cold shear.
